Hi everyone! I cannot believe we are nearing the end of September already, but I am so excited that today marks the first day of fall! That means tons of fun fall learning in first grade! 😀

IMPORTANT REMINDER – WEDNESDAY IS A HALF DAY!                                                                  STUDENTS WILL BE RELEASED AT 11:30!

Spelling – his, they, be, this; spelling test Friday! This spelling test will include word families (listed below) as well, so please ask your kiddo about these at home

Phonics – We will continue focusing on word families this week! -ing, -ack, -eck

Reading – During reading, we will begin a unit on fiction vs. nonfiction. At the end of the week, your kiddo will pick between three African animals to research and write a story about

Writing — We are working hard on using finger spaces and punctuation. Students will also focus on characters in their writing ; their expressions, feelings, clothing, and setting

Math – We will focus on determining which operation to perform (+/-) in both number sentences and word problems. Students will learn to look for key words in word problems and to circle the sign in number sentences to determine if they are supposed to add or subtract. Test on Friday!

Social Studies – We will be learning about inventors! Our focus will be on Alexander Graham Bell and his invention of the telephone

Graded paper folders will be coming home tomorrow! Please return on Wednesday.

Please be looking for a letter from our principal, Mrs. Koonce, in your child’s folder that will come home tomorrow.

Have a FANTASTIC week and please let me know if I can help you in any way!

-Morgan Marsh
